So earlier this Summer I went through a "slider phase." I made TONS of different kinds of sliders. And I have been so busy that my free time has been almost non-existent. So....this blog gets put on the back burner. haha! no pun intended. ;)
Anyway, here is one slider I saw on the Rachael Ray show while folding a massive heap of laundry and just had to try it! (with a little of my tweaking) it's a spin off of chicken parmesan made into a burger!! I mean yum! You have to try it! Please let me know if you enjoyed it as much as I did. Oh p.s.! I have never tried ground turkey before, let me just say....Y.U.M.M.O!! It is so good and plus it's 99% fat free so you can't feel bad about eating a few of these little buggers either. Just thought I'd throw that in there. :)
**Sidenote: Make a ton of little slider burgers and freeze them for when you don't feel like cooking. Heat them up, slap them on some rolls with a few fixins and you'll have a dinner ready in about 10 min! (I'm all about saving time, and preparing ahead. haha)
YOU'LL NEED:
-1 small pkg of ground turkey
$2.00 (kind of expensive, but remember this is for more than 1 meal.
-1 jar spaghetti sauce
$1.72-1/4 c. bread crumbs
$.05-1 tsp. italian seasoning
$.01-2 tbs. parmesan cheese
$.15-4 slices provolone cheese (or whatever you have)
$.50-1/2 c. spinach leaves
$.50-4 rolls
$.25 (I bought a huge bag of costco rolls, they are cheap & oh so yummy! you can make your own if you want)
TOTAL=$5.18*This makes about 10 sliders (the meat does) depending on how thick you make your sliders. So for my family this would be good for two meals.
DIRECTIONS:
-Mix your italian seaoning & parmesan with your bread crumbs on a small plate or bowl. Set aside.
-In a skillet drizzle about 1 tbs. olive oil and turn on med. high heat. Heat pan till oil is really hot, then turn heat down to med heat.
-While the pan and oil are heating up take your ground turkey and form into small patties (making the centers a little thinner than the outside of the patty. This will ensure even cooking of the patty, so your patty is flat and not heaped up in the middle).
-Roll your patties all around in the bread crumb mixture. Then set in the hot pan. This is when you'll turn the heat back to med. heat.
-Cover and let them cook.
-While patties are cooking, turn your broiler in your oven on. Split your rolls and and butter them, then sprinkle a little garlic salt on them. (This is totally optional but adds some pizazz to your sliders) Put these about 6 inches away from your broiler...they will cook extremely fast so watch these with your life, or you will burn them or worse set them on fire and set off the fire alarms (like I did) and then you have to start all over. :)
-Take buns out, and then flip your sliders to cook on the other side.
-This is a good time to figure out what you're serving as your side and get it going while your sliders are finishing off. (if you've never cooked ground turkey before, it doesn't brown like regular hamburger does. It just turns white and then barely browns. So as long as it's not pink and is all white, you're safe. Kind of like when you cook chicken and the "juices run clear" sort of thing. *p.s. I served green beans from the garden with this meal, just an idea for a side.
-While the other side of the sliders are cooking put a small dollop of spaghetti sauce on the top side of the slider, then put a slice of cheese on it. cover and let cheese melt.
-Serve sliders on garlic toasted rolls with a little more sauce on top and a few spinach leaves.
*It will knock your socks off! Love them!
Happy cooking ya'll!
